Our Country can be better

The horrific road accident at Senawang, where a family of six was burned beyond recognision ( ” Loud bang, then an explosion”– NST, Feb 9), should be a wake -up call for motorists  using highways during Chinese New Year.

Road accidents that turn fatal always occur during festive seasons, when more vehicle throng the highways.

There is only so much that government agencies can do to remind motorists to drive safely and within the speed limit.

Hefty fines for traffic offences and graphic advertisements showing road accident victims in the media seem to have failed to reduce accident rates.

Motorists who drive like speed demons and flout every rule  in the book are a danger to themselves and other drivers.

Speed kills and as long as motorists do not adhere to road etiquette, don’t expect the number of road accidents to drop this festive season.
